He made the announcement on Monday afternoon alongside Longueuil Mayor Caroline St-Hilaire.

Lebel said the money will pay for the rehabilitation of one runway and three taxiways, including electrical improvements and the replacement of airfield drainage systems.

These improvements are intended to improve safety at the airport, said Lebel.

"This work will ensure continued safe operation for flight crews, passengers and employees, while contributing to the economic and social well-being of the local community," he said.

The airport accessed this funding through the federal Transport Canada's Airports Capital Assistance Program.
