A minute can be a long time in broadcasting.
So just imagine how CTV Atlantic staffers felt when almost 60 seconds of air time was filled with pornographic content.
Barb Kaiser of Lake Echo, N.S. was waiting to watch the 6:30 a.m. news show on Monday when she noticed it was preceded by a warning that the program would have sexual imagery, The Chronicle Herald reported.
Instead of the news, it showed a film called "Camp Girls," whose opening scene showed a woman "exploring her body," Kaiser told the newspaper.
"I was so shocked," she said. "I didn't know how far it would go, so I quickly changed the channel. When I checked back, the news was on as usual."
A Bell Media spokesman confirmed that the broadcast was interrupted with graphic content for 48 seconds due to a technical error that resulted in an "incorrect channel source" being "inadvertently selected over top of the intended ATV signal."
The channel source was HBO Canada, he said.
The National Post, however, noted that no film called "Camp Girls" appeared on HBO Canada's schedule on Monday morning.
CTV Atlantic isn't the first network that has had sexual content cut into a broadcast.
In January, a hockey game between the Nashville Predators and the St. Louis Blues on Fox Sports Tennessee apparently had porn sounds playing in the background.
The network subsequently apologized for "technical difficulties" during the game.
