When J. Crew designed its "Crosby suit," it aimed to develop something for burly, athletic men.
If a test on a New York pond hockey team is any indication, then they really scored this time.
J. Crew tested the suit on World Pond Hockey champions the New York Boars and took some outstanding photos which now appear on its website.
The American retailer is marketing the "Crosby suit" as its response to the concern that "not every guy is built for the slim tailoring" of its Ludlow suit, the retailer says.
The suit is made out of chino woven at the Larusmiani mill in Milan, as well as lightweight cotton piqué from the Carpini mill in Tuscany.
To accommodate bigger men, J. Crew added three-quarters of an inch of room in the shoulder area and made sleeves that are half an inch wider than previous suits.
An extra three-quarters of an inch create more room in the seat, and an additional inch of room allows the pants to slide on more easily.
Many hockey players wear suits when they arrive at arenas before their games. Who knows how long it will be before they start wearing J. Crew?
