If 'X-Men' Were Directed By Wes Anderson, It Might Look Like This

The "X-Men" franchise has seen an interesting slate of filmmakers come through its ranks.

First, there was Bryan Singer, who made the first two films before opting to direct "Superman Returns." Then Brett Ratner made "X-Men: The Last Stand."

"Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn then rekindled the franchise with his outstanding "X-Men: First Class" before Singer returned to the director's chair for "Days of Future Past."

But what if Wes Anderson had a crack at the comic book saga? A video posted to YouTube and Vimeo on Tuesday gives us an idea.

Filmmaker Patrick Willems' "The Uncanny X-Men" imagines what Wolverine, Cyclops and Jean Grey might look like were they styled and directed in the manner of "The Royal Tenenbaums" or "Rushmore." And it's pretty amusing.

The protagonist in this case is Iceman (James Zebooker). He's a bookish figure with the ability to freeze things with his hands who is recruited to join Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters.

There he meets other mutants such as The Beast, Storm and Angel, who are a tad more eccentric here than you might be used to.

Though we quibble with the way some of the shots are lined up (many images in Anderson's films are aligned symmetrically, and appear as though they could be folded down the centre) this is still a fitting tribute to a great filmmaker and movie franchise.

But it's still not as funny as the time "Saturday Night Live" intuited what an Anderson horror film would look like.
