Charge laid after pedestrian killed while exiting taxi

A pedestrian was struck and killed while exiting a taxi cab in Mississauga early Friday morning and police have now arrested one man in connection with the collision.

Police said the male victim was struck by a pick-up truck around 5:30 a.m. as he got out of a cab at Winston Churchill Boulevard and Bentley Drive. The collision was powerful enough to knock the door off the cab.

The truck driver initially fled the scene, but later returned.

Peel Regional Police arrested the man, who is set to be charged with failing to remain at the scene of a collision.

Police closed Winston Churchill Blvd. in both directions between McDowell Dr. and Thomas St. to investigate. The road is set to open around 9 a.m.

This is the fourth pedestrian death in two days.
