Edmonton Oilers goaltender Richard Bachman is full of praise for Carolina Hurricanes forward Alexander Semin after the Russian scored the "goal of the year" against him on Sunday.
The Oilers were leading the 'Canes 3-0 when the Russian winger took a pass from Riley Nash, was tripped up, fell on his stomach — and scored anyway.
Bachman later praised Semin for the goal, telling The Edmonton Journal: "It sucks being on the other side of it, but you have to tip your hat to him. He never gave up on the play."
The marker has been cited as a "goal of the year" candidate by a number of outlets, but some Twitter users are already content to hand him the title.
To make matters worse for the Oilers, the 'Canes overcame a three-goal deficit to win the game 7-4.
Semin's goal reminded us of the time fellow Russian Alexander Ovechkin scored a goal on his back.
