Meteorologist Jay Scotland sticks to shorts, despite cold

CBC News Toronto meteorologist Jay Scotland fell short on today's weather prediction, but that didn't stop him from wearing shorts for the first part of this evening's broadcast.

During Monday's forecast, Scotland predicted Tuesday afternoon temperatures would reach a high of 8 C. That would be warm enough — or so he said — for him to comfortably wear shorts during the broadcast.

However by 5 p.m. ET Tuesday, temperatures remained cool, hovering in the 4 C range.

"I blame clouds and easterly wind. You're likely blaming me," Scotland told his Twitter followers.

And so, telling viewers and everyone in the newsroom that "a promise is a promise," Jay did his 5 p.m. (outdoor) forecast wearing shorts.

In an effort to improve the appearance of his "pasty white" winter legs, Scotland had a makeup artist try to apply some colour while on air. When that failed, he suggested she return with an airbrush.

Jay is calling for a Wednesday afternoon high of 5 C, but is making no promises to wear shorts.
