Former Scarborough crossing guard charged with sex assault

Toronto police charged a former crossing guard with sexual assault in connection with a 2008 incident involving a teenage girl.

Police in Scarborough announced Thursday they arrested a 78-year-old man earlier this week and that he’s set to appear in court next month.

Police said little about the investigation, but did reveal the man was a crossing guard assigned to the intersection of Midland Avenue and Huntingwood Drive, which is near several schools.

The alleged sexual assault, police said, occurred in 2008 when the female victim was 17-years-old.

Police also said they’re concerned there could be more victims.

Anyone with information pertaining to the case is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
