Several children injured in school bus crash near Elfros, Sask.

A number of children were injured Friday morning when a school bus slid off Highway 35 and rolled near Elfros, Sask.

On board the bus were 19 children, all nine or 10 years old, two chaperones and the driver. It wasn't immediately clear how may children were hurt, but a witness told CBC News that the injuries all appeared to be cuts and bruises.

They were all removed from the bus, and some were taken to hospital in Wadena for what police described as minor injuries.

The accident happened on Highway 35, about one kilometre south of the village, which is located 200 kilometres northeast of Regina.

The highway was closed after the accident.

A preliminary investigation indicated the bus slid on the icy highway, went into the ditch and rolled onto its side, RCMP said.

Police were warning motorists in the area to beware of similar conditions or to stay off the roads altogether.
