Central Quebec slammed by late-winter snowstorm

Environment Canada issued a snowfall warning today for parts of Central Quebec, with 15 to 25 cm of snow expected in some regions.

Conditions are expected to improve gradually throughout the day, but provincial police advises drivers to exercise caution and take it slowly, if they have to go out on the roads today.

Benoit Lachance, a spokesman for Transports Québec, said visibility is greatly reduced on some roads near Quebec City, including Highway 20 and Highway 132.

The warning extends to the following regions:

- Beauce

- Charlevoix

- Drummondville - Bois-Francs

- Eastern Townships

- Îles-de-la-Madeleine

- Mauricie

- Montmagny - L'Islet

- Quebec

Montreal escaped the bulk of the storm, while the Maritimes was hit even harder.

Much of the region is under blizzard, snowfall, winter storm or rainfall warnings.
