Boy, 12, fatally injured while walking on northern Alberta highway

ATHABASCA, Alta. - A 12-year-old boy has been killed in what the RCMP is calling a hit and run in northern Alberta.

Police say the child died in hospital after he was struck Tuesday evening while walking along a highway in the community of Athabasca.

Investigators believe a minivan hit the youth and propelled him into the ditch.

Charges are pending against a 36-year-old woman from the Athabasca area.

In Calgary, police are looking for witnesses in another hit and run that killed a woman in the city's northeast.

They say officers found the woman dead in the westbound lane of a major thoroughfare and her injuries were consistent with being struck by a vehicle.
