Whether you're a farmer in Alberta or city slicker in Toronto, you probably have at least one thing in common: a love for denim.
Denim is easily the one fabric we can say is universally loved -- it's such a classic wardrobe staple that it will never stray too far from our fashion consciousness, even when we're busy obsessing over the hottest new trend.
Each season brings about new iterations of denim classics and we were pleased to see the spring 2015 runways full of unique denim trends we're super excited to try.
Here's how you can work in the new denim trends into your wardrobe:
Denim Dresses
Ease into a head-to-toe denim look with a feminine denim dress. Valentino did a pretty bang up job reinventing the denim dress in the form of a gown with cutouts and flutter sleeves. This frock could stand on its own but a great basic denim dress is the perfect canvas to dress up with colourful, bold accessories. Think bright bags, embellished flats and playful patterned belts.
Denim Culottes
Culottes might be one of the most popular silhouettes for spring. The retro wide leg pant can be found in virtually every womenswear retailer you can think of this season. The trendy pant might seem intimidating at first glance but culottes are easier to style than you think. Try pairing one with a silk shirt with a peter pan collar for a chic ladylike look.
Embellished Denim
We'll always love and appreciate plain old denim but embellished denim will get you more compliments and we love that too. Try a statement-making embellished jean or a denim jacket with studs, sequins or embroidery. Let your embellished piece stand out by pairing it with understated pieces like a t-shirt and solid coloured pants with minimal details.
Canadian Tuxedo
The ensemble Canada has made famous is no longer our little secret thanks to celebs such as Kim Kardashian, who is only one of many celebrities who have adopted the denim-on-denim look. The Canadian tux is a style combination that just keeps getting trendier. The rule of thumb with this matchy matchy look is to avoid pairing denim pieces that are too close in shade and texture. Mix it up and try a variety of denim combinations until it looks just right. Kim did a great job styling her Canadian tuxedo with a pair of coloured pumps and a pastel coat that elevated her look.
Denim Pencil Skirt
The denim mini skirt had its moment and now its pencil skirt counterpart is having its time in the spotlight. Listen, if Queen Bey is wearing a denim pencil skirt, it's on trend. No questions asked.
Denim Jumpsuit Or Romper
Here's another brilliant way to look phenomenal in head-to-toe denim. A denim jumpsuit can be a little tricky to pull off due to its all-encompassing nature but not if you pick the right silhouette for your body. You should be wearing the jumpsuit, not the other way around.
Patchwork Denim
Patchwork denim has been trending for some time but it's another tricky trend to pull off. Style setters like Taylor Tomasi-Hill -- style and accessories director for Marie Claire magazine -- make it look stylish and entirely effortless and guess what? You can too. The beginner's guide to making patchwork denim work is to offset the busy pattern with minimalist pieces like a solid coloured pump, basic blazer or a crisp white oxford shirt.
Denim Outwear
Denim was meant for so much more than just boot cut jeans and mini skirts. Try a denim motorcycle jacket, anorak or an unexpected formal coat that's perfectly appropriate for an upscale soiree.
