28 people nabbed for distracted driving in front of police station

Ontario Provincial Police officers with the North Perth detachment in Listowel say they ticketed 28 drivers with distracted driving in a 12-hour period in front of their own police station.

"I am absolutely shocked that within metres of our OPP detachment window, we see such blatant disregard of the law," said Sgt. Mike Scott. "It is also upsetting to realize that these drivers are just the tip of the iceberg. While the officers were dealing with these violators, other motorists saw this and quickly put away their devices.”

Each driver received a $280 ticket. The provincial campaign by the OPP to specifically target distracted driving will continue until midnight tonight, but regular enforcement will continue as usual.
