The principal of Albertus Magnus High School in Rockland County sent a letter Monday to Jamesville-DeWitt High School's girls' varsity basketball team, including Jamie Boeheim, apologizing for the students' "inappropriate remarks" on Friday.
The Post-Standard of Syracuse reports the Syracuse-area school was en route to a 56-33 win over the previously unbeaten and No. 1-ranked downstate school in the Class A semis when Jamie Boeheim, a freshman, got into the game. Some Albertus Magnus students at the game played outside Albany started chanting, "Where's the cheater?"
The taunt was a reference to the NCAA's sanctioning of Syracuse's basketball program for academic and benefits violations.
Jamie Boeheim scored a basket, quieting the hecklers.
Jamesville-DeWitt lost the next day in the finals to the Buffalo area's Williamsville South.
