The affected brand is Lilydale Inc. "Oven Roasted Carved Chicken Breast" in 400-gram packages with a best-before date of April 28, 2015.
The CFIA says the product was distributed in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Ontario
It says the recall was initiated by the company. The CFIA is currently conducting a food safety investigation that it says could lead to the recall of other products, in which case another bulletin would be issued.
There have been no reported illnesses linked to eating this product.
Food contaminated with the bacteria may not look or smell spoiled, but can still cause sickness. Symptoms of Listeriosis include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, headaches and neck stiffness.
Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are at particular risk. In severe cases, the illness can cause death.
