Skier in hospital after mountain ridge collapse, avalanche in Alberta Rockies

BANFF, Alta. - A rescue crew has found a skier who fell 550 metres in Banff National Park.

Parks Canada spokeswoman Tania Peters says the man went onto a ridge outside the Sunshine Village boundary on Goat's Eye mountain.

Peters says a ledge he was standing on collapsed, which then triggered an avalanche.

Rescuers later found the man on the surface of the avalanche debris.

He was transported to hospital with serious injuries.

Sunshine Village is about 140 kilometres west of Calgary.
