Zayn Malik cried before his fans did.
The departing member of One Direction appears teary-eyed in Vine videos that have emerged from his last concert with the group in Hong Kong on March 18.
But despite all the rumours this week that had him leaving the group's tour because of cheating or stress, it appears the singer may just be looking out for himself.
In an interview with the U.K.'s Sun that took place six hours after he left the group, Malik said he was quitting because he felt he was trying to "do something that I wasn't happy doing for a while, for the sake of maybe other people's happiness.
"It's not that I've turned my back on them or anything, it's just that I just can't do that anymore because it's not real to me," he said.
Malik announced his departure from the group on its Facebook page earlier this week, saying that he wants to be a "normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight."
