Salamawit Girma identified as victim in suspicious Surrey death

B.C.'s Integrated Homicide Investigation Team [IHIT] has identified the victim of a suspicious death in Surrey early Saturday as 25-year-old Salamawit Girma.

IHIT was called to the home near 127 Street and 103 Avenue around 130 a.m. PT by Surrey RCMP who originally responded and determined that the woman's death was suspicious.

Police say they do not believe the death is random and investigators said in a release that the victim's spouse has been in contact with them and is cooperating with the investigation.

IHIT is now trying to determine if foul play was a factor in Girma's death.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to contact the IHIT tipline at 1-877-551-IHIT [4448].
