Justin Bieber took the verbal equivalent of 700 punches to the face at his Comedy Central Roast, which aired Monday night.
And women on the dais were responsible for some of the harshest blows.
First, there was Martha Stewart, who not only nailed the singer, but also fellow roaster Shaquille O'Neal, roast master Kevin Hart, and even herself.
Here are some of her funniest quips:
"First of all, thank you Kevin Hart, it's really great to be here, sitting and listening to you yell your jokes over the last hour. It's the hardest time I've ever done."
"When Shaq bought his house — Shaq, are you listening? — I was the first person he called. The house had 13 bedrooms, and I helped convert eight of them into refrigerators."
"I believe the bedroom is the most important room in the house, but I don't have to tell you that, Ludacris. You have three kids with three different women. May I suggest pulling out some time and finishing on some fine, highly absorbent Martha Stewart bed linens?"
Then, there was Natasha Leggero, who also brought the house down with some raw humour.
Here are some of her best jokes:
"Seems like only yesterday you were discovered on YouTube. Time flies when you're a piece of shit."
"Justin was born to a teenage single mom. No wonder he's got moves, he was in the womb dodging a coathanger."
"Justin, Selena Gomez had to f*** you. She is literally the least lucky Selena in all of entertainment history."
Women haven't always been so welcome at roasts.
The comedy tradition began with the Friars Club, an all-male organization that held such events in venues where women "weren't allowed to even think of attending," its history says.
When actor Humphrey Bogart was roasted in 1955, his wife Lauren Bacall sent an audio tape to the event, calling the membership "rat bastards" for not inviting her.
Women were eventually allowed into the events, such as when Sophie Tucker was roasted in 1953, and Lucille Ball in 1961.
In 1983, comedian Phyllis Diller snuck into a Friars Club roast of Sid Caesar dressed as a man, and was not discovered until the end of the event.
"It was the funniest and dirtiest thing I've ever heard in my life," she said.
Diller had her own roast in 1985, and since then, women have been welcomed as Friars Club members, and become prominent roasters themselves.
Lisa Lampanelli has roasted celebrities as varied as Pamela Anderson, Gene Simmons and Donald Trump.
Sarah Silverman has taken on popular figures including James Franco.
And "Grey's Anatomy" star Kate Walsh once skewered Charlie Sheen in a hilarious fashion.
Women may not have been welcome at one time in history. But if Justin Bieber's roast is any indication, they're dominating today.
