Between dinner courses, foodies cycle with Olympians in Canmore food fest

CANMORE, Alta. - The second edition of Canmore's Uncorked Food and Drink Festival, running April 7 to 19, is offering visitors an opportunity to work up an appetite for dinner — and between courses.

Local Olympic athletes — the town west of Calgary is known for its concentration of Olympians — will lead diners on 17-kilometre progressive dinner tours on bicycles. Four restaurants are on the itinerary.

Participating Olympians include Beckie Scott, Sara Renner, Rosanna Crawford, Brendan Green, Justin Wadsworth, Chandra Crawford and Thomas Grandi.

Other progressive dinners at Uncorked include a downtown gastro-pub walking tour, and a "world tour" with coach transportation to five eateries serving cuisine from Mexico, Italy, Thailand, Japan and the U.K.

The festival, which highlights set-price menus at 25 Canmore restaurants, is also featuring a "culinary symphony" — a five-course meal that pairs food with music played by the Juno-nominated Toronto classical group Quartetto Gelato.

Each pairing is "a themed performance with a dish that echoes and enhances the music," said Andrew Nickerson, president and CEO of Tourism Canmore Kananaskis.
