Bookmakers across Britain have placed the odds at 2:1 in favour of new royal baby being named Alice — and with good reason.

No, it has nothing to do with Julianne Moore's Oscar-winning performance. The name has royal lineage of its own, as Queen Victoria's second daughter was named Alice, as was the wife of Queen Elizabeth's late uncle.

And we're not about to argue with those who know. In 2013, British bookkeepers selected George and James as front-runners in the baby name game with George ultimately being chosen by the Royal family.

But even if the odds are in favour of Princess Alice, royal watchers should be reminded the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge have yet to comment on the gender of their second child.

Other names climbing the list include Elizabeth and Charlotte or, in the event of another little prince, Arthur and James. We're not willing to put money on it, but if we had our pick, the the perfect name for the next princess would be Victoria, in honour of the heir's great-great-great-great-great-grandmother.

It must be noted that Diana, of course the name of the Duke's late mother, doesn't top any lists at all.
