Police have identified the man who was killed after a collision with a streetcar in Toronto's east end Saturday night.

The incident happened near Broadview Avenue and Gerrard Street. The man was pinned underneath the streetcar, police said.

He had no vital signs when emergency crews arrived, according to police. He was taken to a trauma centre and later died.

The victim is identified as 63-year-old Norman Tobey.

In an emailed statement to CBC News, the TTC's executive director of corporate communications offered condolences.

"The TTC's sincere condolences go out to the victim's family and friends. Our thoughts, as well, are with our streetcar operator," said Brad Ross.

Ross did not give any other details of the event, saying further information will need to come from police.
