Police, premier to comment on death of man after shooting in Newfoundland

ST JOHNS, N.L. - The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary and Premier Paul Davis will comment later today after a man was killed while police were investigating an alleged threat against him.The RCMP say the 59-year-old man was killed Sunday at about 2:30 p.m. in Mitchells Brook, about 80 kilometres southwest of St. John's.The Mounties say a member of the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary was in the area conducting an investigation, but won't confirm reports the officer was a member of Davis's security staff.A source close to the investigation has told The Canadian Press that the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officer was investigating an alleged threat to Davis.The RCMP aren't releasing the cause of the man's death until the completion of his autopsy, which is planned for today.Police say no officers were injured in the incident.
