Barrie, Ont., cops find witness poking suspected grenade 'to see if it was real'

BARRIE, Ont. - Police say officers responding to a call about a suspected grenade in a Barrie, Ont., parking lot found a witness poking the object with a broom.

Investigators say the man explained to the officers that he was trying to "see if it was real."

Police say the item found on Thursday morning turned out to be a child's toy and did not pose any danger to the public.

Officials say they believe it likely fell out of a car and was buried in the snow through the winter.
