Beck Taxi service returning to normal after fire next to office

Beck Taxi's dispatch service is returning to normal after an electrical fire at a business located next door to the company's offices this morning.

Just after 5 a.m., Toronto Fire Services were called a daycare located on Credit Union Drive, between Eglinton Avenue East and Victoria Park.

Capt. David Eckerman of Toronto Fire Services said staff at Beck Taxi noticed smoke and called 911.

The fire was in the electrical panel in the basement of the daycare but Beck had to evacuate their offices, affecting service for some customers. Firefighters knocked down the fire just after 5:30 a.m.

Eckerman said damage to the building isn't extensive, but the fire did create a lot of smoke.

In a Twitter message sent just after 7:30 a.m., Beck said their service is returning to normal with only minor delays.
