Target Workers' 'Closing Time' Farewell Goes Viral

"We poured our heart into our final goodbye through song, to a job we loved..."

The Target store in Victoria, B.C. is now closed, but the musical farewell staffers performed on their last day of work is taking off on the Internet.

Former worker Evan Holbein said on Facebook that staff were planning to play the song "Closing Time" over the PA system on the store's final day.

Instead, colleague Kyle Vanderberg taught himself how to play the Semisonic song on the guitar, and that led to an impromptu music video performed and shot in one take.

"We poured our heart into our final goodbye through song, to a job we loved, and a building that contains so many great memories!" wrote Holbein, who handled percussion with a shopping basket and two plastic hangers.

Liam McDonald sang on the hanger bar/microphone, and Brady Zomer and Liam Kelly pulled the band along. The video was shot and edited by Eric Deibert.

Less than two years after opening in Canada, Target closed the last of its 133 stores across the country this week. More than 17,000 employees lost their jobs.
