Travis Rood identified as man shot by Burnaby RCMP after fatal stabbing

The BC Coroners Service has identified Travis Rood as the man shot and killed by Burnaby RCMP on March 29 after a fatal stabbing.

Rood, 35, was the suspect in the stabbing. Police confronted him about 5:50 a.m. PT in the 6100 block of 14th Avenue in Burnaby, according to a statement from the BC Coroners Service.

He was transported to Royal Columbian Hospital, but died of his injuries. The victim of the stabbing, who was also taken to hospital, died as well.

The BC Coroners Service and Independent Investigations Office continue to investigate Rood's death.

The IIO provides civilian oversight into serious police incidents.
