Orchard Park Mall in Kelowna evacuated due to suspicious package

Police have evacuated Kelowna's Orchard Park Shopping Centre after a suspicious package was found in a Sears department store.

The RCMP's Explosive Disposal Unit has been called to the mall, Kelowna's largest, to deal with the package. They're expected to arrive at between 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m, according to RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Joe Duncan.

Police expect the shopping centre will be closed for the remainder of the day and are asking people to stay away from the surrounding area.

Cpl. Duncan said the explosives unit will also do a sweep of the rest of the mall with the help of a police service dog trained to search for explosives.

More to come.
