Say bye-bye to the orange jumpsuit!
In the black-and-white pic shot by Norman Jean Roy, the 30-year-old transgender actress is seen sprawled across a tarp spread, with her left hand over her forehead. She proudly shared the snap on Instagram, including the hashtags #CelebrateYourBody, #TransIsBeautiful and #BodiesThatMatter in the caption.
Initially, Laverne, who is the first openly transgender actress to receive an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Guest Actress, turned down the magazine's request for her to pose nude, but she finally gave in, understanding what the pictures would do for the trans community.
"I said no initially, thought about it, and said no again," she told Allure. "But I'm a black transgender woman. I felt this could be really powerful for the communities that I represent. Black women are not often told that we're beautiful unless we align with certain standards. Trans women certainly are not told we're beautiful. Seeing a black transgender woman embracing and loving everything about herself might be inspiring to some other folks. There's beauty in the things we think are imperfect. That sounds very cliché, but it's true."
And Cox isn't the only one to bare all for the mag -- "Furious 7's" Jordana Brewster, "Vikings'" Katheryn Winnick, "Sleepy Hollow's" Nicole Beharie and "House of Cards'" Sandrine Holt also posed nude for the spread.
