Wildrose pie ad brings unwanted attention during Alberta election campaign

CALGARY - A Wildrose candidate has apologized for how an old-fashioned pie auction was advertized in the constituency he is running in.The fundraiser invited supporters to take a break from calving, farming and the NHL playoffs to meet Rick Strankman, but made it clear it was a BYWP - Bring Your Wife's Pie event.Progressive Conservative spokeswoman Emily Woods wondered on Twitter if the ad was real, and wrote "if so, 1950 just called".NDP leader Rachel Notley suggested Strankman has some old-fashioned views on men cooking and that he obviously has a sweet tooth, but needs a wisdom tooth.Strankman, who is running in Drumheller-Stettler, later apologized, saying the invitation was posted by volunteers through his account. The ad has since been removed.
