RED DEER, Alta. - Melisa Kingsley had a hat trick and two assists to lead the Sudbury Lady Wolves in a 7-2 rout of the Red Deer Chiefs on Tuesday at the Esso Cup.
Karli Shell had two goals and added two assists as Sudbury improved to 3-0 at the Canadian national women's midget hockey championship. Tayler Murphy and Kailey Lapensee also found the back of the net, while Danika Ranger made 21 saves for the win.
Mairead Bast and Maddison Toppe replied for Red Deer (2-1). Sarah Murray and Bailey Knapp split time in net for the Chiefs. Murray made 14 saves on 19 shots, while Knapp stopped 17-of-19 shots.
CENTRAL PLAINS CAPITALS 6 MONCTON ROCKETS 1
Emily Upgang and Sheridan Oswald had two goals apiece as the Central Plains Capitals downed the Moncton Rockets.
Haley Proteau and Sydney Taylor also scored for Central Plains (1-1-1), as Lauren Taraschuk stopped 16-of-18 shots, with Kathleen Kosior turning aside all four shots she missed.
Brooke Murphy was the lone scorer for Moncton (0-3), while Emilie Arsenault made 39 saves.
SASKATOON STARS 5 EDMONTON THUNDER 3
Sophie Shirley scored twice and added two assists as the Saskatoon Stars fended off the Edmonton Thunder.
Nara Elia, Julia Rongve and Brittany Heuchert chipped in as well for Saskatoon (2-1). Emma Johnson made 26 saves in net.
Kimberley Huisman, Madison Laplante and Kennedy Becks supplied the offence for Edmonton (0-2-1). Tracie Kikuchi stopped 25 shots.
