Sept-Îles mining company receives suspicious package

At least 70 homes were evacuated in Sept-Îles overnight due to a suspicious package found at a mining company.

The package was discovered Sunday evening at the Iron Ore Company, which is located near the banks of the Gulf of the St. Lawrence.

Employees there were sent home as a precaution, and homes in the neighbourhood of Monseigneur-Blanche were evacuated around 8:30 p.m.

Provincial police investigators determined the package was not dangerous and have since allowed people to return home.

The city set up an evacuation centre in a recreation centre, but most people chose to stay with friends, family or in a hotel.
