Canadian dollar rises, Toronto Stock Exchange falls in early trading Tuesday

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was up about one-quarter of a U.S. cent shortly after North American stock markets opened Tuesday.The loonie traded at 82.89 cents US, up 0.25 of a U.S. cent from Monday's close.The S&P/TSX composite index was down 4.76 points at 15,339.32, after falling 64.25 points on Monday.The Dow Jones industrial average was up 32.86 points at 18,070.83, the Nasdaq futures fell 10.23 points to 5,050.02, and the S&P 500 futures advanced 0.22 point to 2,109.14.On the commodity markets, the June crude contract was up 26 cents at US$57.25 a barrel and the June gold contract fell rose 80 cents to US$1,204.00 an ounce after the stock markets opened..
