Sun Rich Fresh Foods recalls apple slices over Listeria concerns

An Ontario-based facility is recalling its sliced apples over concerns they may be contaminated with Listeria after someone reported getting sick.

Sun Rich Fresh Foods Inc., in Brampton, Ont., distributes sliced apple snacks for a number of companies across Canada including a number of grocery stores, Starbucks and Subway.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says to check to see if your sliced apple products have been recalled and if so, throw them out.

There has been one reported illness associated with eating these products.

Food contaminated with the bacteria may not look or smell spoiled, but can still cause sickness. Symptoms of listeriosis include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, headaches and neck stiffness.

Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are at particular risk. In severe cases, the illness can cause death.
