Saskatoon police mourn loss of service dog killed in road accident

SASKATOON - A police service dog that specialized in bomb detection has been struck and killed on a Saskatoon street.The two-year-old dog, named Matrix, died Thursday night.Police say the canine and his handler were getting ready for training in a field behind a cemetery in the city's north end when the animal was struck by a vehicle (on Warman Road).He died soon after.It wasn't immediately clear why the dog was on the road.Matrix had been on active duty since last August, and was also used in general police calls.
