Harper: 'Really Inspiring' To Be With Men And Women Taking On ISIS

It was "inspiring" to be around the men and women taking on the Islamic State, Prime Minister Stephen Harper says in the latest instalment of 24 Seven, a government video series.

The brief 23-second clip — a minute shorter than a previous video on the Canadian Pork Council's budget — was shot in Kuwait and shared on YouTube Sunday.

"Here I am in Kuwait, I've been in Iraq, spending time with the men and women who are taking on ISIS and it's been really inspiring," Harper says in the clip.

"They're great people and it's also so wonderful to see how strongly the country's behind them. They're very enthusiastic about what they're doing and doing great work to keep us safe."

Harper arrived in Iraq on Saturday under a blanket of tight security and a temporary news blackout. He met with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi for close to 40 minutes.

“We’re obviously here to discuss not only our relationship, but the obviously very special issue in terms of countering ISIS,” Harper said.

“You can be sure we will continue to work with you going forward, not just on the security problem but on the greater humanitarian and development issues this is causing for the Iraqi people.”
