'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' Cast Covers Vanity Fair For 'May The Fourth'

New 'Star Wars' Cast Covers Vanity Fair For 'May The Fourth'

The monthly magazine profiles the cast of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" for its June 2015 cover, and features the series' legendary characters Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca opposite newcomers Rey (Daisy Ridley), Finn (John Boyega) and rookie droid BB-8. While the film does not hit theatres until Dec. 18, the issue pops up online right before the unofficial "Star Wars" holiday, May the fourth. This commemorative date is a reference to the famed franchise movie line and salute, "May the force be with you."

This early hype and Annie Leibovitz photoshoot could also carry predictive power for the film. In January, Hollywood news outlet The Wrap reported the "Avengers" and "Star Wars" sequels will likely battle it out to be the biggest blockbuster of the year, and it appears Vanity Fair is betting on the galaxy far far away.

Vanity Fair's first look at the characters for the "hotly anticipated" new film will also include exclusive videos and interviews, to be revealed — you guessed it — on May the fourth.

According to SlashFilm, this movie franchise is a favourite subject for the magazine, as it put a spotlight on the prequels in a similarly splashy manner.
