Gas leak forces evacuation of 3 Old Montreal buildings

Hundreds of people were forced out into the street after three buildings were evacuated in Old Montreal this afternoon because of a gas leak.

The Montreal fire department said the leak happened at around 12 p.m. in the area of Notre-Dame Street and St-Henri Street after a pipe was ruptured during drilling.

Hydro-Québec also cut power to the area, to reduce the risk of fire.

Repair work is underway.

No injuries have been reported.
