A large section of the quiet dead-end street was behind police tape, while police investigated Thursday night.
Marilyn Maljaars lives across the street from the house where the incident is believed to have occurred.
She said it all began some time before 4:30 p.m. PT. Maljaars said the heavy police presence in the neighbourhood was quite alarming.
"It was unbelievable how many cop cars, and an armoured tank came in," she said. "The whole street, everybody around the house was evacuated, and the ones that weren't home, we weren't allowed in."
Meljaars said fire crews were also called to put out a fire at the house, and, as of 9:30 p.m., were still working on the fire.
"The fire trucks are still here and spraying it down, and I have no idea what happened to the [resident], Meljaars said. "We were shocked, it's an awesome neighbourhood, and really great neighbours."
Officials haven't yet explained exactly what took place in the fire-damaged house.
Police kept a large section of the street closed, with police tape up throughout the night.
