New Report Reveals The Dark Side Of Nail Salons

The price of nice nails may not be what you expect.

Manicures and pedicures have become beauty rituals for women everywhere, but at what price do our nice nails come?

In a new report published by The New York Times, journalist Sarah Maslin Nir exposes the dark side of New York's nail salons. She found many of the women who work in these salons, which offer extremely low prices for their services, are underpaid, overworked and exploited; they also fall victim to ethnic bias and harassment.

Nir published her exposé in two parts -- the first discusses the horrible labour standards workers face and the second explains the harmful side effects caused by constant contact with the harsh chemicals found in nail products.

The piece, much like John Oliver's rant about fashion, is enlightening, eye-opening, and definitely makes you think.
