April home sales up 2.3 per cent compared with March led by Toronto and Montreal

OTTAWA - The Canadian Real Estate Association says home sales in April were up 2.3 per cent compared with March.The increase, the third consecutive month-over-month climb, was helped by low mortgage rates.Sales were up on a month-over-month basis in two-thirds of the markets tracked, led by gains in Montreal and the Toronto region.Compared with a year ago, sales were up 10.0 per cent.The national average price for a home sold in April was $448,862, up 9.5 per cent from April 2014.However, excluding Vancouver and Toronto, the average price was $339,893, up 3.4 per cent from a year ago.
