Canadian dollar down after open at Toronto Stock Exchange

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was down more than one-quarter of a U.S. cent shortly after the open of North American stock markets.The loonie traded at 82.95 cents US, down 0.39 of a U.S. cent from Thursday's close.The S&P/TSX composite index was also down, dropping 20.57 points to 15,007.55 after it rose 47.40 points on ThursdayThe Dow Jones industrial average was up 12.01 points at 18,264.25, the Nasdaq index fell 0.75 point to 5,050.04, and the S&P 500 advanced 0.14 point to 2,121.24.On the commodity markets, the June crude contract was down $1.33 at US$58.55 a barrel and the June gold contract fell $7.20 to US$1,218.00 an ounce.
