Canada took the match 25-16, 25-18, 26-28, 25-23.
"We played the first two sets pretty solid. In the third set, we made 10 mistakes, so we basically gave them 10 points," said coach Arnd Ludwig. "We started the fourth set the same way we started the third, but we made some subs and that saved us."
The Canadians are preparing for several major tournaments, including the Toronto 2015 Pan Am Games. Calgary 2015 was their season opener.
"Our goals here in Calgary were to win and to do it pretty handily, we definitely accomplished that and we also wanted to try some new things… so we got to do that, which was nice," said Canadian team member Lucy Charuk of Tsawwassen, B.C.
