Schmitt, Canada downs Cuba in straight sets in 2015 FIVB world league match play

CALGARY - Canada remained perfect by beating Cuba in straight sets for the second time in as many outings on Sunday in 2015 FIVB world league match play.

Canadian Gavin Schmitt led all scorers for the second successive evening — this time with 19 points — as Canada toppled the Cubans 26-24, 25-19 and 25-21.

Gordon Perrin added 12 points for the Canadians, who are atop the standings in Pool C.

"It's good to get two 3-0 wins because that's not what usually happens in the first leg of World League — usually you split because both teams are a little rusty," said Perrin. "But we escaped with two big wins and it's starting to come together."

Schmitt scored a game-high 17 points on Saturday en route to beating Cuba 25-20, 25-19 and 26-24 in the season opener.
