Alberta Mounties say man deliberately set truck on fire, which spread to bush

RED EARTH CREEK, Alta. - A 35-year-old man has been charged after a truck fire sparked an out-of-control blaze in northern Alberta.

Mounties say they got a call Tuesday about a vehicle fire on Highway 88 south of Red Earth Creek that had spread to the bush.

Police, fire and Alberta Environment crews responded to the call.

RCMP Cpl. Greg Stannard says the fire has grown to 338 hectares as of Wednesday and is not threatening any communities or homes.

Kenneth Joseph Auger of Peace River, Alta., is to appear in court on a charge of arson on June 2 in Red Earth Creek.

Red Earth Creek is about 425 kilometres north of Edmonton.
