More info for Fido and Fluffy: Manitoba wants to eliminate surprise vet bills

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba government is looking at changes that would make sure pet owners know exactly how much they are being billed for veterinary care.

The province says it is introducing amendments to legislation for mandatory clear and up-front prices for services.

The goal is to avoid surprise charges when owners come to pick up their animals.

Fines for disobeying the Veterinary Medical Act would also increase.

Consumer Protection Minister Ron Lemieux says the province will work with Manitoba's veterinary association to craft the new rules.
