Canadian dollar slips, Toronto Stock Exchange up sharply Thursday morning

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was down slightly Thursday morning as the Toronto Stock Exchange recorded a triple-digit gain.The loonie traded at 81.91 cents US, down 0.08 of a U.S. cent from Wednesday's close.The S&P/TSX composite index was up 127.02 points at 15,199.85, offsetting a 48-point decline on Wednesday.The Dow Jones industrial average was up 8.84 points at 18,294.24, the Nasdaq index rose 22.05 points to 5,093.79, and the S&P 500 advanced 5.44 points to 2,131.29.On the commodity markets, the July oil contract was up $1.53 at US$60.51 a barrel and the June gold contract fell $3.20 to US$1,205.50 an ounce.Note to readers: This is a corrected story.
