Family mourns 'large-hearted' B.C. man who died in boating accident in Mexico

VANCOUVER - The mother of a British Columbia man who died in a boating accident in Mexico says he was a wonderful, reliable man who always pitched in to help others.John Danilkiewicz, 64, aboard the boat earlier this week on Lake Chapala near Guadalajara.His mother Betty says his close friend Zane Bennett, who grew up with Danilkiewicz in Edmonton, also died in the accident.Betty says her son retired about a decade ago from his sheet metal business in Port Coquitlam, B.C., and moved to Mexico where he later opened a bar.She says he had a wife, two sons, a stepson and a grandson, to whom he was deeply devoted.His niece, Katy Danilkiewicz, says her uncle was big hearted and he will be deeply missed.Mexican media have reported that two Canadians' bodies were found while a third person remains unaccounted for _ there were conflicting reports on the nationality of the other person.Foreign Affairs says it's not releasing any identities, but it is in contact with local authorities and is providing consular assistance to the families.
