Inquest into death of psychiatric patient in New Brunswick resumes

SAINT JOHN, N.B. - The inquest into the death of a psychiatric patient at the Saint John Regional Hospital resumes today.Twenty-two-year-old Serena Perry was being treated for schizophrenia in the hospital's psychiatric unit when she was found unresponsive on Feb. 14, 2012.One of two patients arrested the day after Perry's body was found told police the young woman was "acting strange" when he last saw her.Last week, the coroner's jury was shown the videotaped statement the young man gave police the day after her death.Two nurses also testified about finding Perry in the hospital's amphitheatre with a housecoat around her neck. Two pathologists identified asphyxia due to strangulation as a probable, but not conclusive cause of death.
