Toronto market opens lower amid slide in energy and financial sectors

TORONTO - The Toronto Stock Exchange opened lower as the energy and financial sectors lost ground in early trading.The S&P/TSX composite lost 25.59 points to trade for 15,175.17.U.S. stock markets are closed for the Memorial Day holiday.The drop on the Toronto market came as the price of oil slipped lower. The July futures contract for crude oil was down 24 cents at US$59.48.The Canadian dollar was up 0.09 of a U.S. cent at 81.38 cents.In corporate news, Barrick Gold has signed a deal to sell its Cowal mine in Australia to Evolution Mining for US$550 million.
